WA STATE EOC STATUS:
Normal Operations

November 2008 Flooding:

Homeowners, renters and businesses that have experienced damage due to the recent storms and flooding are encouraged to report damages to their local emergency management agency. It is imperative damages are reported immediately so the State can determine whether Federal Assistance should be sought.

When reporting damages, be prepared to supply the following information:

  • Nombre y dirección de la propiedad afectada
  • Type of insurance (flood)
  • A description of damage, even if uninsured
  • A personal estimate of uninsured losses (it is not necessary for property owners to have a contractor's estimate - a rough estimate is acceptable)
  • Tax assessor's valuation of the structure (not including the property value)

For local information please contact your
local emergency management agency.

NOVEMBER SPOTLIGHT

Storm and Cold Weather Preparedness

The month of November brings unsettled weather and declining temperatures to Washington State. These changes in the weather increase the possibility of disasters such as flooding, wind storms, and power outages.

As the weather turns colder it is a good time to learn about, and prepare for, potential hazards. One simple step is to identify, safely store, and protect your important documents in advance. This will allow quick access to your documents during a disaster.

The declining temperatures also increase the potential danger of illness and injury. Take precautions to avoid suffering from cold-related illnesses and learn how to recognize and prevent hypothermia and frostbite.
